GRE Test preparation Strategy And Tips

Preparation Strategy for Verbal

First you will start work on vocabulary quarter in advance. In starting you can work on 10 word lists per day, from Barrons. Then read the word lists in the morning and revision the same in evening. Slowly slowly you catch the speed of reading the word lists and also increase the number of words per day. And, then revise the reading word lists on weekends. As you will fell, only studying and memorizing words, without revision, was not of much use, every weekend you should revise the already reading words.

You can’t get good score on the basis of vocabulary, If you have not started work on RC first. Then write down the 6-7 different kind of question from a passage, and study passages had these questions in brain. The Nova series book would have separatism of RC questions. Therefor, you should work on at least 2 RC’s (from Barrons, Nova and most importantly Big-Book),along with reading word lists.

You will be finished word lists in a month before your actual exam. Once done, then you start working on Antonyms, Analogies and Sentence Completion (from the exercise books). This was purposely done, because without having the words, running on these kind of questions will feel bootless. And, also start revision of 5 word lists in a day. And also reading Nova books for some extra words, in the mean time. But, this won’t be as difficult as the Barron’s.

You will found the Analogies is quite tricky in all the verbal questions. The Nova book has different coupling of words. it can be a negative part, so you should start work on this in detail, so that you could form the relationship of head-pair correctly.

Preparation Strategy for Quantitative

For this part you should start work on all the tips and tricks given in Barron’s and try to solve the exercise problems from Nova. you will found, the degree of questions in the main test, slightly correlating the questions of Nova. From these books some topics ware read in details that is Geometry, Probability, Permutations & Combination, Ratio-Proportion. In the test, mostly questions can come from Geometry and probability for you. whereas In GRE test most of questions come from Geometry. Therefore remembering your basics of Geometry – Coordinate Geometry, Circles, Polygon properties, and so on.

Preparation for Analytical Writing

You don’t leave this part. And give some extra time to this part and study the AWM material given in Barron. Else, you would finished like others, in the main test, do not have an idea what questions is asked. Give a quick look on the most topics given in ETS website for AWM, then you have an idea of what kind of Essays are asked.

GRE Test Tips

  • Give the time to solve the first 10 questions, in both verbal & Quantitative sections, since these solutions would represent your scoring in the Adaptive test. In the first 10 questions answering 5 wrong and the rest of all almost correct, will yet not give a good score. But, The first 10 answer are right and then answering wrong, say, in the last five- where you will find shortage of time, would yet, at least, be okay.
  • Your Main GRE score are closely matched to your Princeton scores. Hence, give these tests only when you are ready with the preparation of all sections. Else, these tests will unnecessarily wasted.
  • Please practice essays at least 3-4, since writing in the main test surround makes you a bit nervous - it is come to me. And, Since it is the first part and you do not want to screw up.

Preparations for Mathematics Portion of the SAT or ACT

When you are ready to take the SAT or ACT soon, you’re probably trying to study, to improve your score. But how exactly do your math scores improve at this point? Let’s see.

The mathematics sections of the SAT and SAT are designed to arithmetic skills you should have learned by the end of your junior year in high school to measure. It provides the College with an objective method to the level that you can be expected to carry out evaluation, regardless of what courses you took in school.

The math questions are multiple choice. Not be misled into thinking this will simply ask. If you do not understand the mathematical concepts and formulas involved in the questions, you’re probably going to miss most of them.

A standardized math test requires you to use your reasoning to solve practical mathematical problems. You will be allowed to use a calculator for some of the problems. So one important thing you can do in the study is to learn how to use your calculator to the nature of the questions are allowed.

Even knowing the basic mathematical formulas is a must. You should also study a few hours of memorizing these formulas and the practice of real problems to see if you can use the formulas.

It’s also smart to at least finish a practice test a few weeks before the date of the test. This will show you where you are a bit weak and hopefully to develop a strategy for studying in those areas. For example, if the practical test you missed a number of questions regarding the calculation of the diameter, then you know that this is a formula that can not truly master.

During your study time, practice a lot with solving word problems. Many people who do badly on the math test because they do not have to learn mathematical concepts and formulas applicable to real-life word problems.

Finally, trying even in areas where the calculator is permitted, without solving the problem. Some students feel that they are actually using it slows down. If you’re one of those, and you can do the calculations without it, you better be served without the calculator.

Studying for the math portion of your college entrance exam will never fun or easy. But it’s good to do if you just adopt some of these strategies.

How to prepare for SAT Practice test?

Basically SAT is Scholastic Assessment Test developed and conducted by College Board. The SAT exam is usually taken by high school juniors and seniors. It is given seven times a year in the U.S.

Studying for the SAT is a long-term process that should begin in a student’s sophomore year when they take the PSAT. Not only does this make them automatically eligible for National Merit Scholar, but it gives a valuable score report showing strengths, weaknesses, and projected scores. From here, decide what you need to work on.

Keep taking practice tests as you get closer to your SAT test date. The SAT, remember, is standardized, so you will see the same questions on the real thing. Before you take SAT practice tests, ensure that you have reviewed all provided SAT practice questions.

For the Critical Reading sections, you’ll need time to read the passages before you answer; depending on your reading speed, you should have about 30 seconds to answer each question. For the essay, you have 25 minutes to read the prompt, draft an outline, and write it all out.

Once you know your strengths and weaknesses, it becomes very easy to focus your studying. There are not many different types of questions on the SAT, so this type of in-depth is incredibly effective. For example, you may be good at math, but not very good with geometry formulas. It is much easier to study these narrow subjects. Simply Bing or Google geometry formulas and you can find the help you need.

For a few months, work just on vocabulary. It will help on both the critical reading sections and the Essay in the writing section. If you need help in a particular category, take quizzes only on that topic. One common area for improvement is reading comprehension and passage analysis. You can find these tests all over the internet.  And seeing your determination may help later when you have an 89.9% and they’re choosing between giving you an A or a B in the class.

Practice tests may be long and boring, but if they’re free and get you into the college of your choice, they are completely worth it.
